Our Story

Yami Hibachi And Poboy was born from a simple idea: what happens when you bring the art of Japanese teppanyaki cooking together with the bold, soulful flavors of Louisiana Cajun cuisine? The answer is something you won't find anywhere else on Airline Drive. We're a family-run restaurant in Metairie that set out to do something different, and we built a place where hibachi plates, poboys, and sushi rolls all live under one roof. From the beginning, we wanted to create a spot where the neighborhood could come in, try something new, and leave with a full stomach and a smile. What started as a dream turned into a kitchen, and that kitchen became a home for the community.

It turns out Louisiana's bold, soulful cooking and Japan's precise, technique-driven approach share more than you'd expect. Both cultures revere fresh ingredients, respect tradition, and aren't afraid to experiment. The hibachi grill and the Cajun kitchen both produce food defined by smoke, char, and depth of flavor. That connection isn't forced, it's natural. The moment it clicked was simple: someone realized that hibachi-grilled chicken, steak, or shrimp, with that signature teppanyaki sear, would be incredible on a crispy Louisiana French bread poboy. That's how the hibachi poboy was born, and that's what makes Yami different. We didn't set out to invent a genre. We just followed the flavor, and it led us somewhere nobody else had gone. Every plate we serve carries that same spirit: two proud food traditions, meeting in the middle, making something neither could have made alone.

Our Cuisine

Think of Yami as three kitchens in one. At the hibachi grill, we fire up chicken, shrimp, and steak plates with fried rice and noodles, everything cooked to order right in front of you. At the poboy station, we press fresh French bread and load it up with your choice of protein, including our signature hibachi poboy, a Japanese-Cajun fusion original you won't find anywhere else.
